Knights needed sturdy armor made out of linen stuffed with wool. The armor was hardened with wax or oil. On top of that they wore a chain mail shirt called a hauberk. Chain mail was linked iron rings. After a while they added chain mail to the arms, legs and hands. When the 1300s came they started to add iron plate armor. Later in the 1400s they wore full plate armor.
